I have the most magical Antique Edwardian 15CT crescent moon bar brooch with Diamonds and Rubies. This brooch is over 112 years old, still in the original silk-lined presentation box which features the stamp of "J. Hurst & Co., Hunter St., Sydney" an Australian Jewellery retailer in operation in the early 20th century. The piece itself was “Made in England”. In Late Victorian and Edwardian jewellery, a crescent moon bar brooch set with alternating rubies and diamonds was commonly referred to as a "Honeymoon Brooch". Symbolically, the crescent represents a new beginning or a new phase of life, while the rubies represent love/passion and the diamonds represent eternity. They were traditional gifts given by grooms to their brides. Brooches are in fashion again! I love how they elevate any look, particular this Diamond loaded beauty! This would also make a fabulous unique chain connector. The brooch features a mix of Natural Old mine, rose and European cut Diamonds. The two end Diamonds are 3 mm. The moon features four Diamonds from 1-2 mm and three Natural pinkish 2mm rubies. It weighs 4.7 grams. The brooch measures 50 mm long by 13 mm wide. The box is 74 mm long by 38 mm wide and 20 mm high. Stamped 15CT, tested 15CT. Pin is metal, not gold. Stones checked by my gemologist.
